Julius Baer is proud to be the exclusive international Co-Presenter of Art Fair Philippines ('ArtFairPh'), which will open its door officially to the public from 1 to 4 March, 2018. In its third year of partnership with ArtFairPh, Julius Baer will show some of the photography pieces from the Julius Baer Art Collection in the Philippines for the first time.
Julius Baer is proud to be the exclusive international Co-Presenter from the financial services industry at the Art Fair Philippines 2018, the premier local showcase of contemporary art. Julius Baer has been a sponsor of Art Fair Philippines since 2016, underpinning its support of the arts and its commitment to the local community.
This year’s show is expected to be the biggest since the Art Fair Philippines was conceived in 2013. To accommodate the growing local audience for visual art, Art Fair Philippines will spread out over six levels of The Link in down town Manila, taking over all available floors. The carpark building will once again morph into a multi-level exhibition venue as 51 participating galleries, mostly local, display the best in modern and contemporary Philippine art from March 1 to 4, 2018. Visitor numbers have been growing every year and last year’s show saw a record attendance of more than 40,000.
Christian Cappelli, Group Head Emerging Asia of Julius Baer, said, “We are very excited and proud to be the exclusive international Co-Presenter sponsoring this event for the third year as it showcases our strong commitment to the local arts and cultural scene. The Philippines has made great strides in building a strong cultural scene over the past few years evident in the growing appeal of the Art Fair Philippines among artists, collectors and galleries across the region.”
The sixth edition of Art Fair Philippines will also introduce a new section, ARTFAIRPH/PHOTO, presented by Julius Baer. This focus aims to increase awareness for photography as contemporary art and expand its collectability among Filipinos. Julius Baer will, for the first time, exhibit a selection of the photography pieces from the Julius Baer Art Collection at the event.
’Themed ’Nature’, the selection features artworks by Julian Charrière (*1987), Adrien Missika (*1981) and Florian Graf (*1980) among others, providing a snapshot of the work of a younger generation of artists. The Julius Baer Art Committee started to collect photography very early on in 1985. About 800 of the 5,000 pieces that make up the Julius Baer Art Collection are photographs.
Barbara Staubli, Curator and Head of Art Collection at Bank Julius Baer, said: “We are fortunate to have the opportunity to feature different media represented in the Julius Baer Art Collection at the Art Fair Philippines. From Christian Marclay’s ’Telephones’ at last year’s edition to this year’s photography selection, we want to bring some highlights from the Julius Baer Art Collection to the vibrant art scene in the Philippines.”
